Description
Yerba Santa may be useful as lung herb; useful for mucus from lungs. From the Spanish language we have the name Yerba Santa, or, as we would say in English herb saint. This herb of the high desert mountains in the desert southwest of the U.S., with its gray-white miniature trumpet flowers, has long been revered by the Spanish community as a life-saving lung herb.
The clean refreshing scent and taste of Yerba Santa immediately suggest the use it affords for mucus and fluid from lungs. May take internally, 40 to 80 drops per day, or hourly as needed for relief. For serious mucus and/or fluid, open capsules of 100 i.u. Vitamin E and rub into the areas of the chest and upper back.
Soak a single layer of absorbent gauze or cheese cloth with Yerba Santa Extract and lay one layer over chest and one layer over the upper back. Then cover with plastic sandwich wrap and finally, a cloth wrap around the body or a t-shirt to hold all in place. Finally, take a plastic trash can liner and make holes for the head and arms.
Pull this over the head and wear like a night shirt. Cover up warm and sweat it out. Change the application morning and night. Wash the area and allow to dry before applying a fresh application. During the sweating out period, may give Yarrow tea as a drink, 1 cup per hour, while awake. Prepare by the usual method of tea making by putting 1 rounded teaspoon full of the dry herb in a cup of hot water and let steep [set] for 3 or more minutes, then strain through a paper coffee filter, or put 1 teaspoon full of Yarrow extract in a cup or water for an instant tea.
For additional helpful herbs, apply to the skin of the chest and back Herbal Adjustment, Oil of Cajeput and Pleurisy Root for congestion.
