I approach this conversation of emotional healing gingerly, given that I don’t feel fully equipped to even write this note to you.
As knowledgeable as I am, I’ve grappled over the years, not months, to mature in emotional intelligence—you know, mastering my emotions rather than letting them control me.
Emotional Intelligence is a clear indicator of maturity, right? Yes, I know. Many of us, pre-COVID, have asked and talked inwardly to ourselves, saying something like this: “When I talk to ___ person, I will remain calm. I will not raise my voice. I will not interrupt them when they talk.”
And then we do the exact opposite of what we said inwardly. What jerks our emotions out of character? A basic question we should answer is, where do our emotions reside? Our emotions are part of our soul; our soul is our mind, will, and emotions. Well, !baam! Did we just answer our question?
Do our emotions reside, at all, any part of them in our human spirit? What’s the difference between emotions and feelings? What do we do when we aren’t disciplined enough to master our emotions? Or the question that precedes that is, why? What does inviting the Holy Ghost into your emotions look like? We’ve often been spanked but told not to cry in our formative years. Often in our adult years, we’ve been told to keep a poker face when our heart is broken. What if the inability to be emotionally mature is a manifestation of a demon expressing itself through me? Those of us who embrace biblical healing & deliverance know that it is real – in scripture, life, and ministry.
RC blakes offers
- Unplug ourselves from the drama – block out the noise and intentionally retreat from the toxic energy
- Make prayer a significant part of your life. Prayer is a conversation. Prayer is issuing commands. Prayer is singing in tongues. Prayer is a life strategy. Prayer is not asking God for things He’s already answered in scripture. Prayer is not begging God. Prayer is not reassigning God to do what He’s assigned you.
- You do not have to attend every fight you’re invited to. Refuse to be angry and unforgiving.
