Spiritual roots of being overweight

In looking at the possible spiritual root issues of the following, we have found often there would be:

Being overweight comes from spirits of fear [as in stress and anxiety], spirits that might have gained access as a result of lack of nurturing in or throughout your life, and spirits that might have gained access to you as a result of victimization or abuse in or throughout your life.

Any number of these spiritual root issues may be generational iniquities, meaning that the same spiritual root issues were present in the father, mother, or grandparents even though they might not have been overweight.

Does this sound familiar? All I want is sugar and carbs. This is rooted in the need to be loved and in feeling insecure about being loved.

What we are addicted to allows us to avoid ourselves by giving us a poor substitute for love to be fulfilled or to fill the void.

Food, sugar, carbs, lack of exercise, or whatever your food addiction preferences are is an escape mechanism. This works in conjunction with the unloving spirit(s) that work alongside the spirits of self-accusation, self-hatred, guilt, and shame. Shame is a type of self-fear.

Wilma said, I don’t desire to eat so much that I become overweight as it makes me critical of myself, and that does not represent the character of God that lives within me. That is from the enemy, and I refuse to bow to that compulsion.

Wilma continued saying aloud; I chose to present a healthy body to God as it is the temple of the Holy Spirit which dwells within me; I am not my own; I am bought with a price; therefore, in the name of Jesus, I refuse to be driven to overeat for whatever reason.

She continued by saying, Body, I tell you to settle down and, in the name of Jesus, conform to the Word of God. I mortify (humble) the ungodly desires of this body and command it to come into line with the Word of God. For at the cross, Jesus has redeemed me from the curse of the law of sin and death. I am delivered from the evil of this present world, for it is the will of God in my life.

Wilma ended by saying aloud; I am blessed by God, highly favored, and a delight to Him. I love myself and value myself as God loves and treasures me. He has given me all wisdom, and He has said that I am dead to sin and alive in His righteousness, & I believe Him. I am so blessed; thank you, Lord, for all your faithfulness to me”.

Lack of self-esteem and insecurity are the fruits of unloving spirit[s]. We find our security in Him. Anything less than that is ungodly.

Introspection can be a spiritual root. A spirit of introspection can be the armor for principalities of self-bitterness or self-accusation. This would refer to inordinate introspection that would lead one to question oneself repeatedly over past or upcoming decisions or actions, for example.

One person addressing their battle with being overweight recognized the possible roots of loneliness. So this person was eating out of not feeling loved or undervalued and bored in life [in their career]. In other words, they were unloved. Are you unloved? Even if people and family say [in words only].

It’s important to call a thing what it is. Have you dealt with weight-related sins? Go ahead and list them on paper.

Remember, food’s original intent was to provide nutrition and fuel your body for the day’s activities.
